Bitcoin holds near $75,000 after a hot jobs report lifts December rate-hike odds

Published · by Hunt4Coin

Bitcoin held in a narrow range around $75,000–76,000 on 6 November 2026 after the US reported 165,000 new jobs for October, nearly three times what economists expected, pushing the odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike in December to about 79–80%.

Prices

  • Bitcoin (BTC): briefly above $76,100 after the jobs data at 8:30 a.m. ET on 6 November, then back near $75,500; the day's range was about $75,240 to $76,280 (Bitcoin Magazine, TokenPost). On 5 November it had fallen about 5.3% from an open near $80,444 to an intraday low around $75,035 (Coinpaper).
  • Ethereum (ETH): about $2,237 on 6 November after trading above $2,400 earlier in the week (CryptoSlate).
  • Bitcoin's market value was about $1.52 trillion (Bitcoin Magazine).

The October jobs report

The US Labor Department's report for October, released on 6 November, was stronger than forecast on every headline measure:

MeasureOctoberForecast or previous
Nonfarm payrolls+165,000about 59,000 expected (Reuters' consensus: 65,000)
Unemployment rate4.1%4.2% in September
Average hourly earnings+0.4% on the month, +3.1% on the yearabove estimates
Revisions to August and September+84,000 combinedSeptember now 60,000, August 186,000

Professional and business services added 70,000 jobs, health care 42,000 and transportation and warehousing 25,000 (TokenPost, Bitcoin Magazine).

Why it matters for crypto: rate-hike odds

Markets are pricing a possible rate increase, not a cut, at the Fed's 9 December meeting. After the report, futures put the chance of a quarter-point hike at about 79% (CME FedWatch, cited by Bitcoin Magazine and TokenPost) or about 80% (Reuters, cited by Coinpaper), up from roughly 70–75% before the data. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to about 4.88%. Higher rates and yields tend to weigh on assets like Bitcoin because they raise the return available on cash and bonds. The next jobs report is due on 4 December; October inflation (CPI) is due on 10 November.

ETFs: a second day of heavy outflows

US spot Bitcoin ETFs had a net outflow of $430.2 million on 5 November, the day of the stock selloff, with none of the funds taking in money, according to Farside data cited by CryptoSlate and Coinpaper. BlackRock's IBIT lost about $105 million; reports differ on Fidelity's FBTC (about $200 million per CryptoSlate and Bitcoin Magazine, $99.9 million per Coinpaper). Spot Ether ETFs lost about $100 million the same day. Bitcoin ETFs have now had net outflows of about $869.8 million in the first four trading days of November, after a $74.6 million inflow on 4 November (our 5 November report).

Stocks bounce

After Thursday's rout (our 6 November report), US stocks opened higher on Friday: the Nasdaq rose about 2% minutes into the session and the S&P 500 about 1%, led by chip stocks (KuCoin/Longbridge). Bitcoin did not follow the bounce in the hours after the open.
